Research interests

The aim of our research is to identify mechanisms that underlie the occurrence of different neurological diseases as well as preclinical drug investigations. Predominantly, we are interested in movement disorders that are based in the central nervous system (CNS) and in disorders of learning and memory function. Gender-specific aspects are included in all studies because steroids exert a multifaceted influence on the CNS. Another research focus represents the topic neurotoxicology. Chemical substances and drugs are able to pass undesirably into the CNS, where they interact with neuronal structures and impair or damage their functions. We are particularly interested in how and to what extent substances penetrate the blood-brain-barrier and pass into the CNS and how this transition can be modulated.
