Leading researchers from the project ‘The Adaptive Mind’ (TAM) are once again organising a summer school on Visual Neuroscience this year. The event is coordinated by TAM researchers Roland Fleming and Alexander Schütz and funded by the Center for Mind, Brain and Behaviour of the three TAM partner universities. These are TU Darmstadt, Justus Liebig University Giessen and Philipps University Marburg. TAM is in the running for a Cluster of Excellence in the prestigious Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments.

The „European Summer School Visual Neurosciences“ will take place from 1 to 13 September 2024 at Rauischholzhausen Castle near Marburg. It is aimed at young researchers shortly before their doctorate or in an early phase afterwards. The aim is to familiarise participants with the most important methods and fundamental questions of contemporary Visual Neuroscience. The young scientists should thus gain a broad overview of their future research direction. The Summer Academy is led by top researchers from the fields of Neurobiology, Neuropsychology, Psychophysics and Theoretical Neuroscience. The event has been held every two years since 2004.

The TAM project on the adaptability of the human mind submits a full application for the Cluster of Excellence funding line as part of the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments . TU Darmstadt is represented in the Excellence Strategy competition with a total of three project outlines. In addition to TAM from the field of cognitive sciences, these are „Reasonable Artificial Intelligence“ (RAI) on artificial intelligence and „CoM2Life“ on communicating biomaterials.
